| Quite a big change in my plans for Christmas! I am leaving in a couple of minutes to fly down to San Antonio, TX to spend about 4 days with my Sister-in-Law and my two nephews and niece. Their Father (My brother Todd) is in the Army and is in Afghanistan and this will be his first time not being home with his family on Christmas so please be praying for them. Also on Christmas Eve I will be flying to West Palm Beach, FL to be with my oldest brother Lyle and his wife Jodi and son Ryan. Please be praying for them as well as the Lord is working in their lives (I don't believe they are saved). And then I will be flying back to Rochester on the 28th. I would really ask for all of your prayers for my family. I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas. Please drop me a comment and let me know what your plans are and how I can be praying for you.

| I recently read Scott Foreman's post on giving gifts on Christmas and
decided to post my thoughts about it. A couple of years ago I worked at
an inner-city ministry. For one week we would accept brand new gifts
ranging from bikes to winter hats and gloves. And the families in that
part of the city would be able to come and get gifts completely for
free. And depending what their income was and how many children they
had determined how much they were able to receive. On top of that, we
would give every family a turkey, potatoes, and a bag full of "fixin's"
for their meal. I took part in this for 2 years while I worked there
and that completely changed my view on what Christmas is all about. I
saw that wealthy families from the suburbs bought these gifts and gave
them for free to people that could not afford them. I realized that God
gave us a gift that we could never purchase. I also realized that I was
giving gifts to people that I didn't buy yet I had the ability to give,
like the gift of salvation. I was also giving gifts to people that were
so undeserving of them, in fact most of the people couldn't afford
gifts for their kids because of gambling, drugs, alcohol, and an
assortment of other things that these men and woman were addicted to.
Yet, how deserving of "the gift" I had received was I? The first year I
took part in this I did not have the money to go home for Christmas,
and as horrible as it may sound, that was the greatest Christmas I have
ever had. Instead of wondering what I was going to get, I could only
think of what I could give. Instead of wondering where I was going to
come up with the money to give gifts, I realized that I could offer the
same gift that God had given me. And unlike spending time with my
family I was spending time with people that most of society had given
up on, but God had not given up on them. Ever since that experience I
have not been able to look at Christmas the same way. I usually get
upset on Christmas day by the materialism that has overtaken almost
everbody, Christians included. I get upset at myself for buying into
the "must have this" or "must give that" type attitude. I have decided
that I hope to spend Christmas day with my wife and kids (hopefully
someday) serving people that are "undeserving" of our love. As far as
gifts are concerned I think I will just buy my wife and kids more on
their birthdays and spend Christmas really understanding what giving is
all about. I am not saying its wrong or sin to buy gifts on Christmas,
just throwing my two cents in.

| It has been an awesome couple of days. Yesterday Sam, Dregits, Mo, Tim, and I went down to the beach and played football. So much fun. It has been great just hanging out with everybody and watching them already put into practice what they have been learning this year. Tonight Kristen and Renee hung out with us which was cool as well. I'm starting to look forward to going back up north and getting back to the basketball games and the different ministry opportunities that come along with it as well as being able to spend some more time getting to know the team. I was also very disappointed at the lack of comments people left me on my last post. hope to hear from everyone soon. I'm getting ready to head out to Nick Tahou's for the second time this trip! I'll see you there Lyle!

| Oh man I am in Rochester and loving it! I ate so much today and it will continue til I go back to the 'Dacks! We ate at Tahoe's tonight after we had the main Turkey meal at my parents and we started by having pancakes at the Cap's! It has been great to see my family and hang out with some awesome people and to see the changes in their lives since I first met them. I'm praying for all of you and hope to hear from you. | | |
| Christmas break is almost here which means soon I will be posting
everyday in my boredom. It will be better this year as there are going
to be more people here on campus, I won't be a recluse confined to the
ranch end of property, however I will be watching John Wayne westerns
all day long! Please be praying for the students as they are getting
ready to go on break.
